Placed, operated by Arbr Rooms Inc. ("Placed," "we," "our," or "us"), respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our website, applications, and services (collectively, the "Service").
If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not use the Service.
1. Information We Collect
a. Information you provide to us
• Account: your phone number and/or email address and your name. If you sign in with Apple or Google, the name and email address they share with us.
• Profile: your handle, display name, profile photo, banner, bio, links, and interests, plus your birthday if you give it. Your birthday is private and used only to confirm you are old enough to use the Service.
• Content: the photos and videos you add, the artifacts, Places, and moments you make, and the captions, notes, comments, likes, saves, follows, and collections you create.
• Location tags you choose (Section 5).
• Communications with us: feedback, support requests, and reports, including any screenshots you attach.
• Connected stores: if you connect an online store, the product listings we sync from it.
b. Information collected automatically
• Usage data: screens viewed, taps, features used, and time spent.
• Device and app data: device model, operating system and app version, a per-install identifier, your push notification token, and IP address.
• Location: only as described in Section 5.
c. Third-party information
• Information from sign-in providers (Apple, Google), from stores you connect, and from social profiles you link to your account
• Publicly available professional or social information directly relevant to your account or content, where you have directed us to a third-party profile
d. Creator vs. fan data
Creators provide account, profile, and Place content. Their identity and content are central to the Service and may be visible to anyone. People who visit and interact with a creator's Place may like, save, comment, or follow. That data is used to run those features and to show creators statistics about their own Places. It is not used to build advertising profiles.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
• Provide, operate, and maintain the Service
• Create and manage accounts, profiles, and Places
• Run the AI features you ask for (Section 4)
• Show creators statistics about their own Places and content
• Analyze usage to improve performance and user experience
• Send notifications you can turn off in iOS Settings, and communicate with you about updates, security, or support
• Review reports, moderate content, and enforce our Terms of Service, including our zero-tolerance rules for objectionable content and abusive users
• Protect against misuse or fraud
We do not sell your personal information.
3. Data & Analytics
We record how the app is used through our own systems and PostHog, linked to your account so we can count unique people and fix problems. Placed may aggregate and anonymize usage data (e.g., engagement patterns, interaction metrics) to improve the platform and to give creators, brands, or organizations insights. Aggregated data does not identify individual users unless explicitly stated and consented to.
4. AI Processing & Service Providers
AI features. When you use an AI feature (cutting an item out of a photo, identifying it, or building or furnishing a Place), Placed sends the photos and related text needed for that feature to these AI providers:
• OpenAI
• Google (Gemini)
• xAI
• fal.ai, which runs our segmentation model (SAM 3) to cut items out of photos
• Modal, which runs our other cut-out models
xAI is an alternate image engine we may switch on.
They process the content only to return the result to us. Under the business terms we use with them, they do not use it to train their models. The app asks for your permission before you use AI features for the first time. You can stop using them at any time and delete content you added.
Service providers. We use these companies to run the Service. Each receives only what it needs for its job:
• Clerk: sign-in and account security. Receives phone number, email, name.
• Vercel: hosting and file storage. Receives service data, photos and videos.
• MongoDB Atlas: database. Receives account, profile, and content data.
• Mux: video processing and playback. Receives videos.
• Upstash: caching. Receives service data.
• Trigger.dev: background jobs such as building a Place. Receives photos and job data.
• Fly.io: runs our visual search models. Receives photos.
• fal.ai: runs our segmentation model (SAM 3) to cut items out of photos. Receives photos.
• Modal: runs our other cut-out models. Receives photos.
• OpenAI, Google (Gemini), xAI: AI features described above. Receive the photos and text needed for the feature you use.
• PostHog: product analytics. Receives usage data, account and device identifiers.
• Resend: email delivery. Receives email address, messages.
• Apple: Sign in with Apple, push notifications, Apple Music playback, map place names. Receives sign-in data, push token, location coordinates for place names.
• Google: Sign in with Google. Receives sign-in data.
A current list of sub-processors is also available upon request.
5. Location
Placed uses location in three ways:
• The location picker. When you open it to tag where an artifact or moment lives, and only if you allow it, the app reads your device's precise location to show "Current location" and nearby places. It never reads your location in the background.
• Photo location data. When you add a photo or video from your library, we read the time and place it was taken from the file's own metadata. We use it to organize your moments and suggest a place name. These coordinates stay private to you and are never shown to other people.
• Location tags. The place name you choose (for example, "Aspen, CO") is shown with your post. Its exact coordinates stay private.
You can turn off location access at any time in iOS Settings › Placed.
6. Contacts
If you tap Connect contacts and allow access, the app turns the phone numbers and email addresses in your contacts into one-way hashes (SHA-256) on your phone and sends only those hashes to us. We compare them with the same hashes of Placed accounts to show you people you know who are already on Placed. We do not store the hashes you send, and we never upload names or other contact details. We keep a hash of your own phone number and email address so people who have you in their contacts can find you.
7. Sharing of Information
We may share information only in the following circumstances:
• With the AI and service providers in Section 4
• When you post content publicly: it is visible to anyone, including on the web at app.placedby.me, unless your settings limit who can see it
• To comply with legal obligations or lawful requests
• To protect the rights, safety, and integrity of Placed and its users
• In connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale
We do not share personal data for third-party advertising without consent.
8. Cookies & Tracking Technologies
On our websites, we use cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in, understand how the Service is used, and improve functionality and performance. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
The app does not track you across other companies' apps or websites, does not use the advertising identifier, and does not share your data with data brokers.
9. Data Retention & Account Deletion
We retain personal information only as long as necessary to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements.
You can delete your account in the app at Menu › Account › Delete account. Deletion takes effect immediately: you are signed out everywhere, your profiles, Places, moments, and content stop being visible, and your handle becomes available. Your data, including photos and videos, is removed from our systems within 30 days, except limited records we must keep by law. Deletion cannot be undone. You can also ask us to delete your data by emailing support@placedby.me.
10. Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information, including encryption of data in transit and at rest, and access controls that limit data to authorized personnel. However, no system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Your Rights & Choices
Depending on your location, you may have rights under applicable privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). These rights may include:
• Access your personal data
• Correct inaccurate information
• Request deletion of your data
• Request portability of your data in a structured, machine-readable format (GDPR)
• Object to or restrict certain processing of your data (GDPR)
• Opt out of certain communications
In the app you can also turn off photo, camera, location, contacts, and notification access in iOS Settings, make your profile private, block people, and delete your account.

12. Children's Privacy
Placed is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information. If you believe we may have collected such information, please contact us at the address below. This Service complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
13. Creator Content & Third-Party Rights
Creators are responsible for ensuring they have the necessary rights, licenses, and permissions for all content, images, products, and media they upload to their Place. This includes any third-party intellectual property, name and image rights, or other rights of publicity. Placed does not assume responsibility for content uploaded by creators that infringes upon the rights of third parties.
14. Third-Party Links
The Service may contain links to third-party sites, including sellers' product pages, which open on the seller's own website. We are not responsible for their privacy practices or content.
15. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. For material changes, we will also tell you in the app or by email.
